All About My Mother alludes to the film by Pedro Almódovar, but it is not a theatrical adaptation of the film. It is a personal project of Michał Borczuch and Krzysztof Zarzecki, inspired by the artists’ real mothers, who both died of cancer in 1986 and 1998. The production was created by their adult sons, half-orphaned, reconstructing their story with scraps of memories from the time when they were teenagers and children. With the help of actresses and producers invited to participate in the project, the artists attempt to tell the impossible – because distorted by the workings of memory – story of their passing away. The artists allude to their own fascination with the disease and the way it was perceived in the period of political transformation in Poland in 1980s and 1990s.
